Trees and Neurons

Trees and Neurons

Mia Dinunzio '24, Author

Every branch, its curves and thinness, sometimes weary and filled with dead branches, look incredibly similar to that of the brain and the neurons it contains. Neurons are pivotal in keeping the brain alive, just as the branches are to trees. Both feed information and nutrients to its main source. Both give it life. The millions of trees that we are surrounded by, I’d like to believe, are the millions of thoughts running and racing though every single human on earth. Whether a brief “branch” or “thought” they are endless. Constantly and consistently. There are multitudes of them ever growing, ever evolving. One tree may die, but another sprouts in its place. We are like trees, we are ever changing and transforming ourselves into something greater than ourselves. That is the purpose we hold as humans on this earth. To be a tree, simple, yet provide one thing that sustains life, thought. If we can provide one thought to someone other than ourselves, we spark a movement of something that came about from a minute word or phrase. Our spark will lead to a blazing fire of thought. Fierce and roaring with ideas.
