The autumn leaves crunched beneath her feet as Amber embarked on her tedious walk to school. October was approaching rapidly, the leaves turning from an olive green to a brassy orange. The wind had a slight chill, enough so that she wrapped her jacket tightly around her shoulders, shielding her from the cold. Despite the charming environment surrounding her, Amber wasn’t too fond of this morning stroll. Not only was this walk a difficult one due to the monotonous nature of walking 30 minutes every morning, but it also left Amber consumed in her own thoughts for far too long. She never understood how individuals could be so content in the realm of their own mind. Amber’s mind was a rocking chair. Thoughts get swept up and move back and forth, however they never actually get anywhere. Due to this internal predicament, Amber is never caught leaving the house without at least two forms of distraction. With a book in one hand and headphones in the other, she is properly equipped for anything that life hurls at her. Books allow her to escape her mind, entering a world foreign to her own. Even if only for a short period of time, it’s an escape that brings her peace in a world of chaos. Despite her joy regarding the topic of books, she does find it amusing that her main source of joy is supplied from a dead tree with 26 letters arranged in various ways.

But even Amber can’t read while walking, which is why in her other hand she grasped a pair of mahogany colored headphones. Brushing her chocolate brown hair away from her ears, she placed the headphones on her head. Amber is indecisive, which is why her music selection usually accounted for at least 50% of her daily walk. Scrolling through her saved music, she hovered over her recently played. Glancing up at the scenery surrounding her, she decided that Folklore by Taylor Swift would be the ideal album to listen to during her frigid walk to school. She adjusted her outfit as she walked. Amber never viewed herself as the fashionable type, as she had neither the time nor the financial stability to immerse herself in the world of ongoing fashion trends. Most of her wardrobe consisted of hand-me downs from her mother, cardigans, jeans, and oversized sweaters. Despite her lack of outfit pieces, she was content with her fashion choices. She believed that the less time she spent on choosing an outfit is more time spent on matters that she actually cared about. Her reasoning behind this was similar to Steve Jobs, who wore the same outfit everyday as it was proven that doing so prevented decision fatigue. That particular morning she had thrown on a pair of brown yoga pants and a green and black striped oversized sweater. Despite her resentment towards this dull morning walk, it was quite peaceful taking in the autumn scenery surrounding her. She figured it beat riding a rickety old bus to school. She shook herself back to reality, something that she found herself doing more often lately. Reality always came as a shock to Amber, as she found peace within her books and music. Continuing across the crunchy leaves, she made her way towards the school, up the wide stone steps, and up into the lobby, disappearing into a world of education.
