New England Revolution Fires Head Coach Caleb Porter After Two Seasons

The tumultuous run has come to an end. What was supposed to be the solution became the problem after all.

Hired in December of 2023 after the firing of Bruce Arena, Caleb Porter brought an impressive resumé to the table, a 113-93-89 record, 2 MLS Cup titles, and a coach of the year award. One of these titles was achieved due to a 1-0 Eastern Conference Championship win over the Revolution as head coach of the Columbus Crew, which ultimately led to an MLS Cup Final victory. All this being said, his success didn’t translate to New England.

This season, the New England Revolution have achieved a record of 8-15-8, and went 23-39-13 overall under Porter. A stark contrast to the Bruce Arena-led Revolution, who showed much more poise and confidence than the latter.

With just 39 goals in 2025 at the time of his firing, the Revs ranked 11th out of 15 Eastern Conference teams. The club finished last in Major League Soccer last season with 37 goals and had the worst goal differential at minus-37, and it wasn’t nearly enough to help the Revolution sneak into the playoffs, as they were eliminated via a 1-0 loss to the Union in Philadelphia.

“Fire Porter” chants were heard nearly every game this summer from the Fort, and the fans had enough as whispers of possible protests from fan groups were heard due to the state of the New England Revolution, the unluckiest club in the MLS, still having gone to the MLS Cup Final 5 times and won 0, and who’s only success in the regular season came from a Supporter’s Shield win in 2021-22, only to lose in excruciating fashion to NYCFC on penalties.

It’s hard to pinpoint where it went wrong; maybe it was the transfers after the 21-22 season, or the firing of Bruce Arena, or the cheap owners, or anything else, but what is true is the Revs face a long, hard, and dangerous climb back up to the top, because there isn’t much lower they can go from here.
