Julianna had always been a very popular girl. In high school, everyone wanted to be her. However, through sophomore year of college things died down. She became quieter, and less extroverted. Asher was reckless and ruthless. He owned horses and fought kangaroos in Australia in his free time.
It was a simple day at Roseberry Chocolate shop, where Julianna worked. Valentine’s Day was days away, and the shop would soon be booming.
Julianna sighed as she finished cleaning up fudge fillings that she had spilled. After she finished she wiped the sweat off her face. It has been a long day. She plopped the rag in a soap bucket and sat back down. As she sat down, the door rang.
“Are you open?” It was a tall man, with black hair as dark as the night sky.
He was dressed in a suit and loafers. Julianna couldn’t help but stare. The man raised an eyebrow waiting for a response.
“Oh- yeah sorry we’re still open.” Juliana sighed.
The man smiled warmly as he took steps forward to examine the treats.
“Awesome.” He replied, taking his eyes off of Julianna to look at the chocolates.
“Got any peanut butter?” He asked.
Julianna pointed to the section of the chocolates.
“Plenty.” She smiled shyly.
“If I had known a pretty girl would be in here I would’ve brushed up my suit and hair,” he said with a grin.
Julianna couldn’t help but blush a little. “T-Thanks.” She sheepishly replied feeling embarrassed by the compliment.
“Got any plans for Valentine’s Day?” Asher asked nonchalantly.
Julianna sighed, “No not really.”
Asher nodded as Julianna grabbed his chocolates to wrap.
“You know I could use a date.” Asher pushed.
Julianna thought, it was like at that moment a spark fluttered through her and her high school self came back.
”Is that so?” She giggled, handing him the chocolates.
“Your total is 10.32.” She smiles while fiddling with the register.
“It is.” Asher said, swiping his card.
Julianna was starstruck and held back a smile. It was an awkward few moments as she silently stood there waiting for words to slip.
“Um-“ She swallowed hard while waiting to speak.
Asher dug into his coat pocket slowly pulling out a half crumpled scrap of note paper and swiftly popped a pen out of his back pant pocket. He began to write, as time froze around Julianna.
Asher smiled. “Sunday at six?”
Julianna shyly replied, “Sunday at six.”
