Birds Chirping

Birds chirping

To children today this is an annoyance

A constant that cannot be silenced

An annoying animal

Yet, to me, birds chirping reminds me of the days when I was young and free of worries

Free to be in the world without care

A bright day yet to be explored

Full of color and awe

To play pretend mermaids and go rock hunting

It was a sense of wonder

A sense of belonging and complete serenity

Where time stopped and age ceased to exist

Something I yearn to feel once more

The sweet melody of birds chirping

They watched as I grew up

Now I can’t seem to hear them as well

I wonder what happened to them?
