Right under the noses of many, four masked individuals carried out a robbery in one of the world’s most famous museums.
The Louvre in Paris, France—a widely renowned destination in Europe that attracts millions each year—is home to some of the most historical pieces of art, including the Mona Lisa by Leonardo da Vinci and The Wedding at Cana by Paolo Veronese. The museum’s halls are filled with paintings, sculptures, and antiques, spanning from the ancient years to the 19th century.
However, in the early opening hours on October 19, 2025, four suspects broke into the museum, stealing multiple pieces of jewelry from the Galerie d’Apollon. The Baroque-style gallery, which houses a majority of the French Crown Jewels and other decorative arts, was broken into using power tools to cut through the windows. In less than ten minutes, the suspects broke into the museum, threatened the guards, took the jewels, and escaped on scooters.
The items stolen were all from high-ranking royal figures. This included head pieces from Empress Eugenie’s, an emerald set from Empress Marie Louise, the reliquary brooch, and Queen Marie-Amelie and Queen Hortense’s sapphire jewelry set. However, while the suspects managed to steal the large majority of these items, Empress Eugenie’s crown was left at the scene, but unfortunately, it was damaged.
Ever since the event took place, around a hundred investigators have been working tirelessly to find the culprits. So far, seven people have been arrested in connection with the case. However, only four suspects were tied to the case by partial confessions and DNA sampling; the other three were sent out without any charges.
Currently, investigators are still working to find the stolen jewels, valued at over 100 million dollars.
